Literature Text
It’s been a long time since I heard your sweet voice,
So soft, so caring, so gentle and warm,
Your gentle caress helped soothe me so much,
Your love and compassion helped bring me true form.
I close my eyes as you walk towards the gate,
You looked back at me, with a smile so wide,
Before you crossed over, you held me once more,
You promised to meet me on the other side.
I open my eyes, tears pouring like rain,
I cry and I hurt as I know that you’ve gone
I don’t know how to handle this gut-wrenching feeling
Or how to finish our sweet, loving song.
But something remains inside of my heart,
A warm, tender feeling with sweet, gentle love,
It whispers with affection much like that of your own,
In the voice of purity like that of a dove.
It says, “Don’t worry, don’t fret, don’t wish me to stay
For in this world we are meant to remain
In the hands of the Lord we rest for forever,
No more sadness, hatred, or upsetting pain.
Continue to live, for me if not you,
Live life for the fullest as if we both can,
As I said before, I’ll see you again,
I’ll stand at the gate, for that was my plan.”
I gently wipe my tears from my face,
And look to the beautiful deep blue sky.
I smile gently at the thought of again
Seeing your face, and no longer saying goodbye.
